One of my favorite things about this time of year is STRAWBERRIES!!!

Oh I love them yes I do!

And even though it’s a little early to pick them here I can tell that they are in season somewhere cause they actually have flavor~!

So this week I have been eating one of my favorite salads…

It’s spinach with Strawberries, toasted almonds and this time I threw some portabella’s into it.

I just put about 1/4 cup almonds into a pan and fried them in a little butter until they were browned. I also fried the mushrooms in olive oil.

Then I cut up 4 strawberries and laid them on top of a bed of spinach.

For the dressing I put 1/2 Cup olive oil with about 2 TBSP vinegar and 1tsp sugar.
Mix it well and pout over top of salad….

Hey there….

I can’t believe it’s been 2 whole weeks since I last posted.

I haven’t really been in the mood.

In fact I’ve had visions of just shutting the whole thing down.
Like maybe I have finally run out of things to say.

I know shocking for my friends!

Not that this is devasting for anyone….

Except maybe my mom…..

It’s just one of those seasons.

Maybe I’ll get my inspiration back another day.

Tea Party

Posted on

I have always been quite enamored with Tea Parties.

I have visited southern plantations and heard about how important tea parties were to the culture of that specific time period.

I love how it brings people together….Especially Girls together.

I often wish it would still be a tradition we practiced regularly today.

I was telling my girls this yesterday as we headed out for a tea party. My baby niece was turning 3, and her mom planned a beautiful little tea.

We were all dressed up and had done our hair, makeup and nails…It felt like a big event.

I think there is something very significant about teaching my girls that it really is okay to be girls. It seems we have lost something in our “casual” lifestyles….

Don’t get me wrong,
If I had to dress up like this every day it would quite a trial!
And if I had to have that prickly stuff against my backside all the time
I may get a little prickly myself….
If you know what I mean!!

But sometimes we forget that we have a really special gift.

A unique quality that separates us as females.
And part of this is that it’s okay to like fine things and sappy love stories, and making ourselves look pretty, and tea cups with all the special touches that go with it.

And if you’re a girl and that’s really not your thing ….That’s okay too!

Sometimes we don’t have to dress up like Fancy Nancy….

We may just be trying to connect with a friend.

Here is my little friend Suzi.
She spent the day with me several weeks ago. And she loves tea parties…

So we had one.

This tea party consisted of very sophisticated food indeed….
Tea cakes (sugar wafers) and a special root tea (root beer)
We had a delightful cup of IBC together in some very dainty cups instead of the frosted mug.

Sometimes tea parties can help soothe what hurts in us.

Like this broken globe…..This was Sophia’s special purchase she picked out as her souvenir from our trip to Disney. She had painstakingly looked at all items numerous times to make sure that this was indeed the perfect purchase.

When we got home she wanted to take it into her class for show and tell….

Need I say more?

It made it all the way there and all through the day until she was about 2 minutes from home.

Her friend accidentally dropped it on the bus and as I greeted her after school she burst into sobs…..

So broken about her little globe. My heart instantly felt with hers as I searched frantically for the right words and how I could soothe away her pain.

She thought of it first. As I was holding her and letting her “cry it out” she asked, “mommy can we have a tea party?”

Excellent idea~
So I brewed some tea and set out some pretty little plates.
Within minutes my darling daughter was smiling as she chatted about her day.
We talked about the globe and I told her once again how sorry I was for her loss. It also gave us a chance to talk about being gracious to others when accidents like this happen.

And she seemed to not think it quite so important cause we had stopped to do something special together and she understood that I knew this loss was important to her.

I believe that deep within all girls big and small is a part of us that wants to be cherished and accepted for who we really are.

And Really it doesn’t matter if there is tea involved or not.

We all want to know we are special to someone.

Like life is usually good but when it’s not there will be someone there who will be our soft place to land.

So connect with a friend today.

It may be the best thing you can do for yourself

and for them.

Creation Museum

Posted on

Here is our group at the creation museum.

It was a well spent trip. The museum is such a great way to reinforce what we want our kids to know.
It all starts at the premise that the Bible is truth.
Everything starts there.

He is First and Last. He was present at Creation and is present today.
And we anicipate the future with him!

I loved these paintings…

Here we are in front of the garden of Eden.

Yes, the little one ate a bug.

Actually several brave souls did.
They liked it except for the legs.
They kept getting stuck in their teeth.

Excuse me as I throw up in my mouth!

Here are the little people.

This is Noah’s ark. They were allowed to try to climb the wall here.

Yeah…. So some mom’s decided we couldn’t be outdone.

“Rose let go and wave”!!

Are you kidding….I am not letting go! Check out that death grip I have on the side!

Not pretending here…I’m not the bravest gal in the land.

Especially when my husband has the camera on me…he would be very pleased to record a graceful backward dismount.

Jalen and his buddy Seth.

And here we are having our engagement picture taken…

A great experience…..
I would encourage you to take your children.

It’s not that interactive but it does give a really clear message!

What a great way to start our spring break!

Easter..What a wonderful Day!

Posted on

It was a wonderful Easter! We got to spend Easter with family in Ohio.
We are missing one important person this year…Malaina. She is on a class trip.

So we stuck this cute little boy in the mix. Doesn’t he look like he belongs?
It’s because he is Jason’s brother’s son. His name is James.

The service at their church was so meaningful! It was obvious that people took a lot of time to create a well thought out service. After the worship time the service was wrapped up with cardboard testimonies….So moving!!

Here is the dance team that started off the service…
Our niece is the 2nd to the the bottom.

The really cool thing is Jason and I lived here for awhile so we still have lots of friends left here. We got to see a lot of them and spend a few minutes talking with them before church because there was an early breakfast offered~

It always feels good to come back to visit.
And something even a little more special happened….
My wonderful childhood friend Tonya happened to be in town this weekend too. She is sweet beyond words. I love when I have not seen someone for years and when we see each other again its still comfortable!

Her little girl is Sophie’s age. They had something in common. See that gap? Same/Same…HA!

And then I caught up with the Pastor’s wife…Who also happens to be an old childhood camp friend. So Sharla, Tonya and I got to spend a few minutes laughing together. It was such good medicine for this heart today! I loved seeing these ladies. They reminded me that friendship is still alive!!

After Church we went back to my brother and sister in laws for a scrumptious lunch.
Finally we played some Frisbee golf before we packed our bags and took off.

Here is Sophie and her cousin Erin goofing around.

Nice touch Sophie:)

Later this afternoon we drove to Cinci to meet several of our friends from home for a little “spring break” fun. We are visiting the creation museum tomorrow. I can’t wait. I hear it’s so cool.

Yeah, That’s right….Sophie is the only little girl. These boys are so fun! I like them a lot! They are full of mischief and boyishness~ Their parents are Pretty wonderful too:)!

What a great day!

Thank you Jesus for your grace and for giving us hope in hopeless times!
